Facebook SEO – easy for now

11:04 pm Category: Random Stuff

Facebook’s search engine, compared to Google, is not very advanced. Think of it as how Google was a few years ago. It will surely improve as it grows more popular, as there’s no doubt more and more people use the search feature there to find pages they’re interested in. Optimizing for Facebook search results appears to be a lot easier than it is with other major search engines.

For now facebook lists its results for fan pages on the number of “Likes”. The fact that it is easy to buy “Likes” for a small price it wouldn’t be difficult to out rank the pages which are actually legit. So basically, whoever has more fans will no doubt gain the most visitors. A lot of people who have large followings on fan pages regularly sell their status updates

The other advantage of optimizing Facebook pages is that they also rank quite highly in Google these days, as does Twitter and Youtube accounts. Example, after recently creating a Facebook page for another site I have it was on page one of Google after only a few days for the search term of the site.

It’s a good time to get involved with Facebook SEO because a lot of people are predicting that it’s search engine will one day be up there with Google, Yahoo and Bing.

The Race is already on between Google & Facebook. But Google appears to be focusing on segmentation by organizing around “circles,” allowing an easy way to target particular posts to friends, family, colleagues, etc. In fact you can do this on Facebook as well, but Facebook lists are not as easy to find or edit; nor are they as easy to view as a separate stream.
