In a bid to concentrate on her new pop career, Xfactor winner Alexander Burke has vowed to give up sex. The vow of celibacy comes after advice from her mentor, Cheryl Cole.

“Cheryl told me to keep away from men,” said Alexander. “She wants me to concentrate on music without any distractions. There will be no romance – I’m all about the music.”

Alex broke up with her boyfriend D’Andre West before auditioning for the X Factor. Alex and Cheryl have struck a real friendship over the course of the series, and Cheryl was rather emotional when Alex was announced as the winner on saturday night.

After Saturday night’s win, Alex said: “Cheryl and I have united and become strong together, definitely. She is now my friend more than my mentor. She’s proud of me and I’m proud of her being my friend. She is an inspiration to me – she’s a young woman who’s gone through the same situation I’m in. She’s taught me so much and I’m so grateful that she’s in my life.”

Alex’s single, Hallelujah, is in shops today.
