Helix Nebula: eye of God
The Helix Nebula, a shell of gas and dust blown off by a supernova, has been dubbed the “eye of God”, because of its uncanny resemblance to an eye. It has a blue pupil on a white area, and is even fringed by flesh-coloured eyelids. Lying at a distance of about 400 light years from Earth, it is one of the closest of all planetary nebulae.
