In relation to a previous post – scammers working out of bryn mawr college I have just received an email from Andrew Lacey, the system administrator from Bryn Mawr College, explaining why the emails have been coming from their address.

Hi-

I am an e-mail administrator at Bryn Mawr College. Over the past few weeks, our users have been receiving password phishing e-mails originating from off-campus. When they reply to these e-mails and provide their passwords, their Bryn Mawr e-mail accounts are then hijacked by the scammers and used to send the messages you have received. We have been fighting this for a number of weeks now with limited success, as some of our users have ignored our warnings and continued to reply to phishing messages. Please understand that the scammers are not located here on our campus; they are just using accounts that they have hijacked. We are dealing with the compromised accounts on a case by case basis as they come to our attention. Thanks,

Andrew Lacey
