Highena Hotmail account hacked

Tag: Scams11:29 pm

When I woke up this morning and checked one of my emails, a yahoo account, I found a message from my Hotmail email, from me…

Dear
Please I am really out of town now; I went to a business trip with a friend of mine to Ivory Coast which will be of benefit if it proceeded normally.
Please I am out of money there and I need your help just to send $200 for my flight ticket, I really promised to pay you back as soon as I came back, please render this help to me and I will be very much appreciated.
Thanks
My full name was here.

When I realised that I hadn’t slipped into the twilight zone, and that somebody had hacked hotmail,
I immediately reset my password by changing it via the alternate email. When I got in I found that all my messages had been deleted, and quite a few of the above message sent to a selection of my contacts and about 50 random addresses.

I have no idea how they got in. I haven’t fallen for any phishing scams. It suprises me that somebody who knows how to hack a hotmail password would then distribute such a lame excuse of an email scam. Anybody who knows me will know that I wouldn’t be in the Ivory Coast.

The funny thing about all this is that I used my hotmail account to receive comment notifications here at Highena. These were the bulk of the messages they deleted. They could have quite easily, using that email, gotten access to the site.

If hacking hotmail is that easy I’m going to delete that account.
