Following on from my post about scammers working out of Bryn Mawr College I received a reply from the college after contacting them to alert them of the situation. Here is what they said:

Dear Stella,

Thank you for alerting us to this problem. We are currently addressing it, and it will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Call, F0032614, has been updated with this information.

If any of the above description is inaccurate or you can provide any more information that would help us to resolve this request, please contact the Help Desk at 610-526-7440 or via e-mail: help@brynmawr.edu.

Thank You,

Notice how it’s addressed to Stella. Not my name. And the “Call, F0032614, has been updated with this information.” makes no sense to me.

Anyway, I just googled the email address that the scam came from – smillerc@brynmawr.edu, and some listings came up. It turns out that the email belongs to Stella Miller-Collett. From what I can gather Ms Miller-Collett is a Proffessor of archaeology at the college.

So I presume that the email I received was intended for Stella Miller-Collett, and that she has already complained to the IT department at the college about her email address falling into the wrong hands. At this time, this is only guess work. I’ll update when I hear more from the college.
