After all the fuss surrounding University Challenge contestant, Gail Trimble, it turns out one of her team members wasn’t actually a student any longer. Sam Kay, from Surrey, was working as an accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Kay said, “I hugely regret not confirming my change of status to the University Challenge programme makers before the final rounds.”

Man, I bet he feels quilty.

Dubbed as the “Most successfull University Challenge contestant ever”, Gail Trimble has come in for a lot of flack online, some even suggesting that she could even be a man (possibly due to Dr Yamak’s claims that women’s brain are only the size of squirrel’s). Others have gone even further, saying she’s a witch and should be burned alive.

The Royle Family Christmas special is about to start in a few minutes, and I can’t wait. This was one of my favourite sitcoms a few years ago, and it’s great to see Jim, Barb and co returning to our screens.

In a bid to concentrate on her new pop career, Xfactor winner Alexander Burke has vowed to give up sex. The vow of celibacy comes after advice from her mentor, Cheryl Cole.

“Cheryl told me to keep away from men,” said Alexander. “She wants me to concentrate on music without any distractions. There will be no romance – I’m all about the music.”

Alex broke up with her boyfriend D’Andre West before auditioning for the X Factor. Alex and Cheryl have struck a real friendship over the course of the series, and Cheryl was rather emotional when Alex was announced as the winner on saturday night.

After Saturday night’s win, Alex said: “Cheryl and I have united and become strong together, definitely. She is now my friend more than my mentor. She’s proud of me and I’m proud of her being my friend. She is an inspiration to me – she’s a young woman who’s gone through the same situation I’m in. She’s taught me so much and I’m so grateful that she’s in my life.”

Alex’s single, Hallelujah, is in shops today.

Olympic cyclist, Chris Hoy, has been crowned BBC Sports Personality of the year for 2008. His three gold medals in Beijing made Hoy Scotland’s most successful ever Olympian.
