Digital Point, the popular forum for webmasters, could soon be shut down as their owner Shawn Hogan has been indicted for cookie stuffing and earning millions from the illegal practice.

Cookie stuffing, for those who aren’t familiar with the term, is where somebody covertly stuffs an affiliate link into a cookie so as every time a user on that PC buys an item, in this case on Ebay, the affiliate gets a percentage.

It is estimated that between 2005 and 2006 Hogan made $15.5 as an Ebay affiliate, their highest earner by a country mile. Along with his friend Brian Duddy (Ebay’s second highest earner with $5.5 million), Hogan has been released on $100,000 bail.

Such crimes can carry prison sentences of up to 20 years, and fines of double the loot. With Dunning’s estimated $5 million haul, this could add up to a massive fine of $40 million.
