They seemed to have now settled on the name Aftervote, as apposed to Younanimous, which I think is a much better name. Having just had a little play with this new search engine, I have to say I like it.

Aftervote takes all the listings from Google, Yahoo and MSN, crunches them up and puts the most relevant sites at the top of their listings.

How does this work? I’ll let them explain.

You do a search for “Social Search Engine” and you click the first result. It’s not what you were looking for at all, and is therefore not a useful result for your query. You press the back button and try result #2. Voila! You found exactly what you are looking for. But it’s more than that. AfterVote(Younanimous) is analyzing these results and has cast a vote for you automatically, saying that result #1 wasn’t what you wanted, but #2 was. If you do however find a awesome site, you can manually vote for it as well.

Like Google, they have an image search, and also a video search.

Another cool feature is that they provide information on each site by Alexa ranking, Google pagerank, Compete, domain age and much more.

You can also tweak the search results to your own liking. If you think Alexa is a good stats programme for sites you can have your searches go by Alexa, or Pagerank, or if domain age is more relevant to you, and so on.

I often find myself keeping Alexa open in a browser when I’m looking at new sites, so this is a great tool to have.

I hope Aftervote takes off once it gets out of beta, because on paper it looks like a really good idea. Namely, taking all the irrelevant crap out of searches.

A bit of toilet humour…

I’m forever coming across these websites which promise improved earnings from Google adsense. All you have to do is follow their instructions and then watch the bucks roll in. Nine times out of ten these sites will just be a means of making money from adsense themselves. By placing ads in strategic places, usually under a headline such as “Get rich quick,” or something similar, they try to steer you to click their ads.

And don’t even get me started on the ebooks. There’s not a lot you can’t learn for free on the net these days, so don’t fork out anything for advertising advice.

One site I did think was a good source of info for beginners, though, was Adsense Make Money. Without being in your face with the ads, this guy does an easy to follow step-by-step programme.

In my experience, though, the best source of advice is the webmaster forums. In particular, Webmasterworld has some very knowledgable posters on adsense and other affiliate topics.

These girls turn up to star in a lip balm commercial, and are asked if they feel comfortable kissing a handsome model. Of course, they jump at the chance. They’re blindfolded. The models sneak out, and are quickly replaced by chimps. Check it out - it’s cruel… but very funny.

At New York’s Kennedy Airport today, an individual later discovered to be a mathematics teacher was arrested trying to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square and a calculator. Authorities believe he is a member of the notorious al-Gebra movement, and have charged him with carrying weapons of math instruction.

This clip is obviously taken from a TV show, but somebody who viewed it on Metacafe obviously thought it was from a real wedding. Read their comments below the video.
