I won the lottery! Not.
Every day I receive an email telling me I’ve won the lottery.
The subject usually reads something like this: This is not a joke. Winner announcement.
Open the email up:

Joseph Lyddane Waldorf MD $10,000.00 PAID
Ginger Becker San Antonio TX $100,000.00 PAID
Dennis S. Oak Harbor OH $10,000.00 PENDING
Timothy Dahnke Kennesaw GA $100,000.00 PAID
Jerry Mitchelson Sierra Vista AZ $300.00 PAID
ME MY CITY $1,000,000.00 PENDING
Hey, that’s me! I have won!
See my silhouetted figure in the bottom right hand corner, my name and $1,000,000 prize money pending.
Now, the word “pending” is rather misleading. It gives the impression the cheque is waiting, and you just have to claim it.
Once you click on the link you’re taken to a page to fill out your name and address, then you’re taken to a page to fill in your credit card details, so as you can deposit some money to start playing Freelotto.
Hardly free. So the check is “pending” until you win. Rather obvious.
On their website they claim FreeLotto has awarded $76,960,527.00 cash prizes to FreeLotto players!
Freelotto may not be a hoax as such, but they reel people in with misleading words and promises.
